HISTORY: |
The parish of Weibern is not very old. In 1860 Weibern and Wabern were separated from the parish of Kempenich and made their own parish. Unfortunately, we do not have any images of the chapel that existed until then. It is also regretted that there are no remains of this church. All documents fell victim to the bombs in Koblenz in September 1944. On August 1, 1962, the Hausten-Morswiesen parish was separated from the Kempenich parish and joined as a branch of the Weibern parish. Today the entire parish of Weibern has 1650 Catholic Christians, 340 of them live in Hausten-Morswiesen. Since 2004 the parish of Weibern has formed a parish community with the parishes of St. Philippus and Jakobus Kempenich and St. Hubertus Rieden. The responsible pastor has his residence in Kempenich. The parish community is part of the Remagen-Brohltal dean's office in the Trier diocese. The Protestant Christians belong to the Protestant community of Adenau.
There are two Catholic churches in Weibern: the old one, built in neo-Gothic style from 1888 to 1892, and the new church, which was opened on July 1, 1973 in honor of St. Barbara was consecrated. The old church is one of the few neo-Gothic churches in the diocese that has been completely preserved. The new church was built because the old church soon became too small for the community. The meaning of the new church came from the time after the 2nd Vatican Council. Our Parish: St. Barbara, Weibern |
