They probably lived there through 1937. Norb worked as a substitute mail carrier in Fond du Lac. He held this job from September of 1936 to January of 1937 Later, they moved to 29 W Arndt St, Fond du Lac. That is the address on my birth certificate. By about 1938, Norb was working as a bartender for his father-in-law, Elmer Wood. 36

(Ron Friedel - 1997) Just a note about Norb's cycling career. In 1978, my son Mark, age 10, and I went on the first SAAGBRAW. This was a cross-state bicycle ride starting in LaCrosse and coming back to Milwaukee. It was sponsored by the Milwaukee Sentinel. Mark and I had so much fun on that ride that Norb decided to go along with us in 1979. So, I built up a bike for him and he trained for the 1979 ride. He started riding a bike again the year he turned 67. My family rode with him on that summer ride. Mark, Sandy and David, age 6, rode bikes and I pulled Patrick in a trailer. He rode 5 or 6 more SAAGBRAW rides. In 1982, the year he turned 70, he was in a fund-raising ride on his birthday for the Kiwanis Sunrisers Club. They ran a raffle in which people were to guess the number of miles he would ride in one, 12 hour day. He and I went to the Hardees on West Johnson and at 6 a.m., they recorded his odometer miles and covered the viewing window with masking tape. Then we, and at times, the rest of my family, rode around Fond du Lac for the rest of the day going out to Mt Calvary and then up to Oshkosh. We came home at 5 p.m., showered, and put on clean cycling clothes. We went back to Hardees and when they uncovered his odometer at 6, we found that we had gone 105 miles! That was about as far as I had ever gone in one day up until that time, and I was only 43! 36
