Class - Ash Wednesday and Lent

Goals: / Objetivos

The Goal of this class is to explore the meaning of Ash Wednesday and Lent. This lesson should include the meaning of Ash Wednesday as a mark of the beginning of a special time of praying and doing to make more room for Jesus in our lives with emphasis on Praying, Fasting, Almsgiving on the level the children can do.

El objetivo de esta clase es explorar el significado del Miércoles de Ceniza y la Cuaresma. Esta lección debe incluir el significado del Miércoles de Ceniza como el inicio de un tiempo especial de oración y acción para dar más espacio a Jesús en nuestras vidas, haciendo hincapié en la oración, el ayuno y dar limosna al nivel que los niños puedan hacerlo.

Ash Wednesday fill in the blanks: An activity that goes with the lesson plan, students could fill it out in teams in class or at home with their parents
Prayer, Fast, Give ideas - lists several different activities to choose from for the children's special resolution depending on their age
Living Out Lent Activity: for the younger ages, an activity to choose resolutions during class and then continue throughout lent
This resource is a great one to use with the older children. Part of it is included in individual activities here but it would make a lot more sense if you used the website to see the activity in detail.
Lenten Prayer Stained Glass Window - a way for children to "see" their progress during lent, coloring in part of the stained glass window each time they do a lenten sacrifice
Prayer for a Lenten Spirit: A prayer you could read with the children at the end of class and send home with the families to read as a family
Daily At Home Family Lenten Activities: A great resource to send home with families!

Bible Reading

The Bible reading from the book for today is Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18 about how to fast and pray, or Luke 4:1-13 - Jesus in the desert. Or you could read Mark 1:12-12, another version of it.
