NOTES: | From Jack Achter in 2010 | "He was born around Wahpeton, N.Dakota around 1880. He left the family farm when he was about 12 years old, this according to his own biography in the Pope Co. Historical Museum at Glenwood, Minn. He worked on farms around the Wahpeton area until he was around 21 years old. He was hired by the Heileman Brewery at Wahpeton. He then moved to Glenwood, Mn. and ran a saloon there, for the brewery for a few years. He then started his own tire shop. He also worked as a machinist for the Soo Line Railroad at the Glenwood rail yard. During that time, he was transferred to Bismarck, N.Dak. where he worked for about 5 years. A son was killed by a dray wagon, (age 6), during that time. Shortly after that, they moved back to Glenwood, Mn. He was also a carpenter, City Council man and the Fire Chief. As he described it, in those days, you would take any job to support your family. Joseph died in January of 1963, in Sauk Centre, Mn. Todd Co. Minnesota. He was about 86 years old. He resided in a rest home there for about 5 years." |
From records | Mark Remley married before 1918; his WWI draft registration lists him as married. But in 1920 the census shows him living with his parents and divorced. The 1930 Peoria, Illinois Census show him married to Josephine Achter. (Is this correct?) They divorced. He then married Lucille Achter, her youngest sister, and they moved to Oregon. 1920 1930 09 55 |
