Gilboe Family Photo Album
Cabinet card photos.

PHOTO DATE DESCRIPTION
1890 The back of this picture says "1890" and nothing else. This may be Andrew Gilboe who was 18 or 19 then. The photograph is mounted on a photographer's cabinet card and says "Rhinelander, La Plant, Wisconsin" at the bottom, and measures 6 7/16" x 4 1/4". The photograph itself measures 5 1/2" x 4".
about 1890 The back of this picture reads: "Josie. Agnes Gilboe, age 15." Which I interpret to mean that this picture was given to Josephine Gilboe and it is of Agnes Gilboe at age 15, which would mean it was taken about 1890. The picture is mounted ona photographer's cabinet card and the bottom says: platino finish "C. Krueger & Co., Brown St., Rhinelander, Wis." The card measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/4". The picture itself measues 5 1/2" x 3 7/8".

These two pictures were known as cabinet cards. Cabinet cards were popular between about 1880 and 1900. They were photographs, some albumen, and others produced with a gelatin silver process, affixed to a 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch cardboard mount.
